Piston Extrusion

One of the special designs of a LOOMIS Piston Extruder is the patented double tilt system, giving the extruder the ability to hydraulically tilt the Material Cylinder and the Press Frame, horizontally, vertically or any desired position in between.
The horizontal position is the most commonly used. In this position parts can be extruded which have a high green strength after extrusion and can be cut using a mechanical cutting system.

The vertical position is used for parts with a low green strength, thin wall, or have a hard to extrude shape and would deform if extruded horizontally.

Extruding in an inclined position is done when the material is weak and has a weak binder or if gravity causes the part to stretch.

It is possible to set the position such that the part can travel on a guide while it is being extruded, the angle is set such that gravity and friction on the guide do not deform the part.

The Material Cylinder hydraulic tilt is used for quick loading of the Material Cylinder and for ease of maintenance.
